Student Admin!
Eca knows that managing student needs can take a lot of time. She has prepared for this and has small strategies that help. She has a forum set up for each course where students post questions and can answer each other. This saves time as many students have the same questions and since all the students can see the responses, she only has to answer them once. It also means her email is not flooded by messages and allows her to allocate two sessions a week where she addresses all the questions from each course. It's also fairer because all the students (regardless of culture, gender, or personality type) get all the same information.
Using these strategies Eca finds the hardest part of course administration is herding cats - getting the other lecturers to reply to emails confirming they are available to teach in the timetabled slot, receiving assessment questions from them and finding out time availability to ensure marking is done on time.
She often feels very alone when she has to ask for information multiple times from more senior colleagues. Why is she not good enough to do this? Why is she not worth replying to?
