Teaching philosophy

I believe in a constructivist teaching philosophy where students build their own knowledge based on previous experience in facilitated learning spaces. I believe a safe and inclusive environment maximises the opportunities for learning. In science I think it’s important to teach within the context of a topic but focusing on particular key skill sets including team work, enquiry, problem solving, communication, and the ability to evaluate reliability of information sources. Finally I believe that teaching should be treated the same way as our research - through evidence based improvements based in theoretical frameworks that are shared with the wider community (scholarship of teaching and learning).

In these associated pages you will find a list of my coursework teaching, student projects, educational research projects and publications and science communication events.
